Creating Home Workplaces
for working and living in a changing world

The growing cost of commuting - in time and money - is making working from home more and more attractive. At the same time, technological advances are making it easier than ever to work from a home office.

Although there are many benefits to working from home, it can also be challenging. Home workers often begin working at home with little forethought as to how - or even whether - their home environment will be suitable for them. They may suddenly discover they aren't nearly as comfortable, nor are they as productive as they had expected.

On this website, you'll see some of the finest examples of custom home office design, personal space design and small office planning. Still, a professionally planned home workspace doesn't have to cost a fortune. With professional guidance and planning, we show many of our clients ways to maximize comfort and utility, on a limited budget.

How We Work

In a free initial interview, we'll discuss your needs with you, focusing on the kind of work you do, and how you do it. We also evaluate your home environment as you describe it to us. From information obtained, and many years of experience, we can quickly provide you with an outline of goals, and - right then and there - the general costs required to achieve them.

Goals

I have often said in my writings and interviews that every successful home office embodies three principles: Balance, Order, and Personal Spirit.

First and foremost, your home office has to balance your personal and work life, even if you live alone. Second, your home office has to be planned for order and organization, so that you can work productively, while keeping your work contained and separate from the larger living space. Finally, your home workplace shouldn't be a place where you go to suffer work. It should be a reflection of your personal spirit, a place that you enjoy being in, and a place that supports you to do your best work.

Steps

In my Home Workspace Idea Book, I outline the five basic steps we use to achieve the goals outlined above. We:

1. Determine your needs in detail
2. Help you to choose a location in the home that will work best for you,
3. Develop a floor plan and a budget - the basic design
4. Help you to create a healthful work environment, and
5. Help you to develop it for utility, comfort and pleasure.

We have the proven skills required to guide each and every one of our clients smoothly through this process. If you are planning to develop or reconfigure your personal living space, for work or for any special purpose, please contact me for a free evaluation. I look forward to speaking with you personally.
